What we do
![]() Our Osteopaths are focused on finding the cause of your problem. With our experience in physical assessment and wholistic knowledge of the musculo-skeletal system, you can be assured that you & your family will receive quality healthcare. What an appointment involvesInitial appointments are around 45 minutes duration and involve:
Follow-up consultations are 30 minutes duration. We have a short review about your progress since the previous session, and then the majority of the time is allocated to more hands-on therapy. Back/Neck Pain
Back and Neck pain is the most common problem we see. This is due to the daily strains placed on the spine posturally and with repetitive tasks. These injuries are often mis-diagnosed, so it is so important to determine the cause, because only then can you receive the appropriate treatment for your individual problem. Our methods of assessment can accurately distinguish between muscular, joint, postural & disc origins of your pain. Headaches & Migraine
Headaches are a disruptive and painful problem, commonly produced by neck and shoulder muscular tension & stiffness arising from the upper 3 joints in our neck. Osteopaths successfully reduce the tension and restriction, and teach you how to prevent your headaches with stretches and postural awareness strategies. One of our practitioners had suffered chronic headaches for many years (from a childhood trauma) and established a specific treatment approach to resolve the pain. All our practitioners are privy to this approach and have therefore gained an understanding and ability to treat this specialised & difficult area effectively. Sports Injuries
Whether it is a muscle, ligament, tendon or joint injury, we are fully equipped to differentiate the cause with our specialised orthopaedic testing. Only then can you get accurate treatment and advice. Our practitioners use the added value of ultrasound where appropriate to assist in your recovery, and provide you with a plan to get you back into your activities ASAP. Acute or chronic injuries are suitable for Osteopathic treatment. Boroondara Osteopathy is a sponsor of the Greythorn Falcons Football Club. www.greythornfalcons.com.au Pregnancy-Related Pain
Considering the enormous changes your body undergoes during pregnancy, it is not surprising that most women experience pregnancy-related pain. Spinal and pelvic pains are the most common problems. Not only does osteopathic treatment keep your body aligned while pregnant, it also helps maintain your mobility to aide in the birthing process. We use 'Belly Pillows' (big cushions with a donut hole cut out of the middle) which allow women to lie comfortably on their front for treatment. This can be a lovely change due to the limitations of pregnancy. You may find www.pregnancy.com.au a useful link for further information and support during your pregnancy. Children & Babies (Paediatric Osteopathy)
Why is my child in pain?? It so common for young people to get pains while growing (especially kids that play bucket-loads of sport). When children and adolescents grow, their bones grow faster than their muscles. This creates a lot of tension in the joints because their muscles have now become taut elastic bands. The most common growing pains are experienced in the knees, heels and spine. Osteopaths work on loosening the muscles and joints, and teach appropriate stretches for the regions of pain . Babies can also experience problems from unresolved birthing strains. This can lead to unsettling times with babies having trouble feeding and sleeping. The gentle, sensitive touch of Osteopaths can provide another solution to settling a baby, by relieving the restrictions that have occurred, especially around the neck and gut. Tendonitis & RSI
These injuries usually occur from overuse. Common areas include:
Arthritis Pain
It is common to hear people say, “it’s arthritis, I was told I just have to put up with it.” This is often not the case. Due to the deterioration of the cartilage cushion in our joints and the natural narrowing of our discs in our spine, we feel increased stiffness and pain as we age. The good news is, by mobilising the joints and working on the tight muscles around these joints, our mobility and consequently our pain levels improve. Simple daily exercises we prescribe, can then help maintain this improvement. Our focus is all about restoring joint mobility & relaxing the muscular tension. That’s how we get results! Arthritis complaints most often occur in the neck, low back, knees, hips, thumbs & big toes. |
